Installing SalvageData Backup on Windows

This guide walks you through installing and verifying SalvageData Backup on a Windows computer.


System requirements

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • Active internet connection
  • Administrator permissions for installation

Step 1: Download the installer

  1. Log in to the backup portal: https://backup.salvagedata.com
  2. Download the Windows Backup Agent installer (.exe).

Step 2: Run the installer

  1. Double-click the downloaded .exe file.
  2. If Windows SmartScreen appears:
  3. Click More info
  4. Click Run anyway
  5. Follow the installation wizard.

The installer will place the SalvageData Backup agent on your system and register it as a background service.


Step 3: Sign in to the backup app

  1. Open SalvageData Backup from the Start Menu.
  2. Sign in using:
  3. Username / Email: the email associated with your account
  4. Password: the password provided to you

If this is your first login, you may be required to change your password.


Step 4: Confirm backup configuration

After signing in, confirm the following:

  • A Storage Vault is already selected
  • A Protected Item (Files and Folders) exists
  • A backup schedule (typically daily) is enabled

These are preconfigured automatically based on your plan.


Step 5: Run your first backup

  1. Select the protected item.
  2. Click Run backup now.
  3. Leave the computer powered on and connected to the internet.

The first backup may take longer than future backups.


Notes and tips

  • Backups run automatically based on the schedule.
  • If your computer is off at the scheduled time, the backup will run the next time it is powered on.
  • You do not need to keep the app window open for backups to run.

Common issues

Installer blocked by antivirus

Some antivirus software may delay or scan new backup agents. If installation pauses: - Allow the installer to complete - Retry installation if needed

Backup not running

  • Confirm you are signed in
  • Ensure the device is online
  • Click Run backup now to test manually
