Installing SalvageData Backup on macOS
This guide explains how to install and verify SalvageData Backup on macOS.
System requirements
- Supported macOS version
- Active internet connection
- Administrator permissions
Step 1: Download the installer
- Log in to the backup portal: https://backup.salvagedata.com
- Download the macOS Backup Agent installer (
.pkg).
Step 2: Install the agent
- Double-click the
.pkgfile. - Follow the installer prompts.
- Enter your macOS administrator password if requested.
Step 3: Allow security permissions (if prompted)
macOS may display security prompts during or after installation.
If macOS blocks the installer
- Open System Settings
- Go to Privacy & Security
- Under Security, click Allow Anyway
- Re-run the installer if required
File access permissions
If prompted, allow access to: - Files and folders - Desktop, Documents, Downloads (as applicable)
These permissions are required for backups to function correctly.
Step 4: Sign in to the backup app
- Open SalvageData Backup from Applications.
- Sign in using:
- Username / Email
- Password provided to you
Step 5: Verify backup configuration
After login, confirm:
- A Storage Vault is already selected
- A Protected Item exists
- A backup schedule is enabled
These are configured automatically based on your plan.
Step 6: Run your first backup
- Select the protected item.
- Click Run backup now.
- Keep the Mac powered on and connected to the internet.
Notes and tips
- The first backup may take longer than subsequent backups.
- Laptops should be plugged in for best performance.
- Backups continue to run in the background.
Common issues
Permission denied errors
If backups fail due to permission issues: - Reopen System Settings → Privacy & Security - Confirm SalvageData Backup has file access permissions
App will not open
- Confirm the installer completed successfully
- Restart your Mac and try again
